MILE HIGH HENRY

Judging from the reactions amongst the bedroom audience to his recent Triangular Hair album, Henry Law is finally achieving the recognition and understanding that has long been due him. In a decade where there have been exceedingly few musical visionaries, Law has been developing a style and sound very much his own.

It seems hard to realise that almost ten years have passed since the precociously gifted eighteen year old made his first startling impact on the bedroom scene with Kipling's Pagans. The years of experience in one of the North's most experimental bands have left him with diverse tastes.

'I am the Law' sees the same impressively strong team as 'Big Black Hat' with the sad exception of Len Miller after his untimely death in a plane crash. Of Taylor, Law observes: 'He's like another half of me. Almost like being married - he's always bloody there but I couldn't do without him. He's got a massive sound and no matter what kind of feel you bring into the music, he reads precisely what's going on and reacts perfectly'.

The two have been working together since Law started out in music back in the seventies, and it shows! 'Dan and Raoul we picked up in Havana. We fit together like a jigsaw.' They are certainly a puzzle - how do they do it? Listen and learn...
