EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL
RUNNERBEANS

A few years prior to the doss band phenomenon, ETR have subsequently been included as they fit the category nicely: experimental and often silly music recorded in someone's bedroom in the Colne Valley! Inspired and amazed by Stockhausen's "Trans", Kips and friends decided to have a go at making their own experimental + atonal music. Firstly with old friend Raps, using mainly improvised percussion instuments from the kitchen, they recorded "A Twisted Mind" in 5 movements: Awakening, Feast, Digestion, Indigestion, The Kill. (You have to understand they were about 10 at the time). Next with Kerrin he recorded the "Eagle" Suite. Both these first attempts are considered to be unworthy of reproduction, but if there are any total freaks out there... Then, in 1980, came ETR: two sessions yielding yet more questionable "music" but this time barely listenable, with abstract entities such as Sea, Wind, Sun, Asteroids, War, Concrete and Cubism. Should be featured on "Mixing It!" |
