Falling together in the mid 1990s the ANLB provided an oasis for Colne Valley Dossers on the hard road from turmoil searching for a creative outlet. This dishevelled collaboration between dossers from the Santaphobia, Breadhead Conspiracy and Gibs camps churned out a preposterous repetoire of blues-rap-salsa-folk-dub-thrash, coordinated and subject to relentless remixes by Jon Jugulation. The songs usually hung on a couple of simple ideas: a groovy Tom-cat riff, some clever lyrics, improvised over improbable electronic beats. Awash with FX, the sound was often sparse (reflecting disorganisation and DIY recording techniques), leaving space for the disembodied voice of Jon Jugulation to hurl ironies about babies, grannies, low-lifes, god, alienation, the CIA, minor celebrities and mad scientists. Bizarrely it was their unlikely attempts at rapping the poetry of William McGonagall which probably saw the height of their fame, having been demonstrated by MC Jabber to his Czech Students, and getting mentioned in the Guardian! With plans to reform as "Anal Bee" they hope to produce their first release on rectum sized wax cylinder. A must for all amateur audio enthusiasts! UPDATE - June 2006 The all new All New Lucky Boys are an evolution of the original All New Lucky Boys. The core members are now Karl and Tom. Karl wrote songs and lyrics for the original ANLB (notably, Shell Suit Family Robinson, Einsteins Eyes), Tom was in them properly, like. The All New Lucky Boys is now primarily a recording project dedicated to taking the best of the Santaphobia/Chaos back catalogue and giving it a bit of a polish. So far they've completed tracks that were first recorded by The GWF, the (original) ANLB and Mile High Henry. Other tunes to get the revamp treatment will include choice cuts from Giblets and Cheese and several Octafish live favourites. In and among these are brand new tracks, like "Jekyll and Heidi", in a familar ANLB stylee. They hope to rope in several Chaos veterans to help out along the way. The ANLB have performed as an acoustic duo at Bar 120 and will be playing gigs as a full band in the summer. |
